Position: Senior Safety Consultant

Location: United States (any city)

Who Should Apply

We are seeking independent (1099) loss control consultants and safety professionals who will continue to promote our excellent reputation. This is NOT an entry-level or full-time position. Ideal candidates must have demonstrated experience, excellent communication skills (written and verbal), the ability to set and keep appointments, and the ability to submit quality reports on time. They must respect client instructions for on-site observations with a professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possessing or currently pursuing a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Certified Safety and Health Management (CSHMS), Associate Loss Control Management (ALCM), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or other Risk Management Related Designation.
  • Ability to travel and strategically arrange/schedule jobs to minimize travel expenses.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience and subject matter expertise in one or more of the following: Insurance Loss Control, Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Construction Safety, Transportation Safety, Chemical Safety, Risk Management, Property or Casualty Insurance, Human Factors & Ergonomics.
  • Maintains knowledge of safety, health, and environmental regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local.
  • Demonstrates an excellent understanding of OSHA compliance standards and regulations, ensuring adherence to workplace safety requirements.
  • Proficient in formatting tables, inserting pictures, and following provided templates using Microsoft Word.
  • Skilled in using email for professional communication, including sending attached pictures, documents, and files to our offices for review.
  • Competent in navigating online portals for submitting reports and accessing survey resources.
  • Capable of using Excel to review loss run data and format spreadsheets effectively

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site hazard assessment surveys to determine workplace hazards and exposures. Evaluate the effectiveness of workplace hazard controls and provide recommendations to improve risk reduction measures and comply with OSHA regulations.
  • Identify and assess jobsite exposure and controls. Provide photographs along with any other necessary survey information for underwriting decision-making.
  • Inspect equipment and machinery for unsafe conditions, missing guards, and/or improper maintenance.
  • Provide compliance assistance with OSHA standards and recordkeeping requirements, including but not limited to OSHA 300 logs, training records, and other compliance program requirements specified in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926.
  • Review or develop written site-specific safety management plans or safety programs (e.g., HAZCOM, Ergonomics, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Crane and Hoisting, Fire Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogen).
  • Facilitate required OSHA, NFPA, CPSC, MSHA, DOT, and third-party liability prevention program training or refresher training.
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks with clients’ employees and/or contractors.

Please note that independent consultants are not employees of ZCA. This position offers flexible, project-based work with no guaranteed hours or amount of work. Job availability depends on your experience and the availability of jobs in your preferred travel region/area. As an independent consultant, you will not receive traditional employee benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, retirement packages, or tuition reimbursement.
